Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, inspired by the commercial success of the 2019 “Pet Sematary,” envisioned a prequel that would delve into the mythology and universe of the film. In February 2021, the project was green-lit, with Jeff Buhler returning as the screenwriter and di Bonaventura as the producer. Lindsey Anderson Beer, making her directorial debut, helmed the film, and principal photography commenced in August of the same year.
